from the office of The President
Dear fellow Jeromians,
THE JEROME K JEROME SOCIETY WEBSITE
I hope this finds you all well, successfully following the snakes and ladders progress of the pandemic and generally bearing up.
As far as I can see, I can now visit my first cousin once removed wearing a face mask (not removed) with five others, as long as we don’t sing anything and haven’t been to Spain in the last 12 days (including 4 days off for good behaviour) or been anywhere near Bolton or Renfrew, unless it’s to test your eyesight of course.
Anyway. The point of this letter is to encourage you to have a look at the new, revised, updated and altogether more comprehensive website of the Society at:
http://www.jeromekjerome.com
There are many new features including the whole of the 1918 silent film of The Passing of the Third Floor Back starring Sir Johnston Forbes-Robertson (not a masterpiece but of great historical interest), a whole library of JKJ related pictures (do submit yours for inclusion if you think they are appropriate), my 1984 BBC Radio 4 broadcast of extracts from My Life and Times, and a wonderful map of the Thames contemporary with Three Men in a Boat.
Please let me know what you think, where we can make improvements, what else you would like to see, and any constructive criticism of what we have done.
A committee meeting today will be discussing the future of the Society and how we intend to find a suitable repository for all the Jerome-related material and ephemera we have – and the bits we don’t: The Desk, The Uniform and The Portrait, all currently locked away and unseen by the general public.
We would love to hear from you at some point, if you have any opinions and ideas on this. You can write to the Chairman or me – or indeed address the matter on the website Forum section.
All best wishes,
Jeremy Nicholas
