I have the Hugh Lawrie audio version of Three Men In A Boat. It is excellent although it has been abridged.

I heard Three Men On The Bummel on Radio Four once, again with Hugh Lawrie reading.

Has this ever been released? I have never seen  it.

I've not heard the Hugh Laurie or Naxos audio versions of Boat or Bummel. I'm sure they're wonderful, but you can buy CDs of both books abridged and read by the President - recorded originally for Argo & EMI respectively - for £15 (or £10 for just one book). Each book comes on 2CDs with no fancy packaging or artwork. Contact me on jeremy@jeremynicholas.com

I checked. Yes, the Naxos audiobook (3 Men in a Boat) is unabriged. 6 CDs. Wonderful stuff.

I just got the Hugh Laurie version, and apart from Stephen Fry I can't think of a better narrator. It's extremely annoying that it's an abridged version. Does Martin Jarvis bring the same sense of fun to it? I get an image of some serious "thesping" going on.

I love audiobooks, especially good for cycling, as you can hear the traffic trying to kill you.  I have audio books of Three Men In a Boat by;

Jeremy Nicholas
Nigel Planer
Hugh Laurie
David McCallum
Anton Rogers
Martin Jarvis

All but the Naxos by Marin Jarvis are edited (interesting to see which bits are cut out/left in by each editor), and some may no longer be available.  The David McCallum - reading as though it is a tragedy by Ibsen throughout - was given away with The Times newspaper at one point.

If there are more floating about I would be very interested.
